Pinecones
Paraffin Wax
Sawdust
Crayons (optional)
Chemical Coloring

Chemical Coloring:
Table Salt- Yellow Flame
Borax Soap(sodium tetraborate)- Green Flame
Salt Substitute(Potassium)- Violet Flame
Epsom Salts- White Flame
Boric Acid- Deep Red Flame
You can make different colored flames by using one of the chemicals listed above. It is not recommended that you mix the chemicals together. Mix the chemical (if you use one) with fine sawdust.
Melt Paraffin Wax in a double broiler (one not used for food). You may add a crayon to this to change the color of the wax. With a pair of tongs dip the pinecone into the wax. One or two coats is enough. Then immediately dip the pinecone into the sawdust mixture. Set aside to dry for approximately 2 hours. After the pinecone is completely dry shake out the excess sawdust mixture.
Note: Use caution, for all items are flammable. Only put one pinecone in the fire at a time and keep away from children.
